Red Horse Mountain Ranch

Day 1

Being back was an exceptional feeling. Just turning left onto East Blue Lake Road gave me goosebumps. And there was more to come. The closer I got to the ranch, the more memories came flooding back. It had been 21 years since my last visit. Unbelievable. It felt like I was coming home.
By coincidence, I stayed in the same cabin as on my last visit. Sometimes, the universe really does have surprises in store.
The ranch hasn’t changed at all. Why should it? It’s just a few little things here and there. And the trees have grown. Interestingly, the previous owners, Iris & John, were guests this summer. The first evening ended at the lodge bar with exciting conversations and a delicious gin and tonic.

Day 2

The first horseback ride was less painful than expected. Even if, after over twenty years, you can’t say that it was due to the training. Mac, the horse, was also brave enough to carry me on his back. Thank you, Mac.
Even if I sometimes felt that he wanted to push me left or right into the bushes.
In the afternoon, the Challenge Course was on the program. Without going into too many personal details and the significance of the course for me, the successful jump at the Leap of Faith gave me a special kick.
Monday evening – saloon time – live music
It’s exciting that I’m ready to join in and dance to live music without much effort. Which is not usually my style. The evening down in the saloon was simply outstanding and entertaining.

Day 3

The day began with a relaxed breakfast. Huckleberry pancakes. Simply delicious.
The scenic ride was relaxing but shouldn’t have been any longer. Tomorrow’s exit is planned for 2.5 hours. A reason not to join in. You also have to know when you need a break. It amazes me more and more how the wranglers know all these routes and how they are connected. Back then, Sarge laid out a whole network of riding trails in the surrounding area for Hidden Creek Ranch.
Today’s version of the archery hike, with seven stations, was enjoyable. It was really fun. And it’s always incredible how time flies when you’re doing something.
The evening with the group of four and Stephan was very entertaining. As the only non-American, I could provide one or two translations into German daily.

Day 4

Today was my day off. Doing nothing, reading, thinking, writing. See what the day brings.
The walk to the former Tipi Village did me good. Seeing how much the place and the former fireplace have changed was exciting. It may be overgrown, but you can still see it clearly. At least if you knew where to look. This place of connection to the earth has a special meaning for me.
I was able to pause. The time for me and with me was necessary for the future.
You don’t have to do something every day.

Day 5

And it’s already Thursday. This long anticipation of “being there.” And then the time just flies by.
Today was another wonderful day with a relaxed scenic ride and kayaking in the afternoon. We were lucky with the weather. Despite the fog in the morning, it was sunny and warm in the afternoon. Autumn brings special moments to the region.
The day was not one for many words. I also ended the evening with a view of the stars and the Mlichstraße, sitting in a hot tub. This moment was an indescribable reward.

Day 6

Saturday – Departure

Departure is a strange word. Do you come back or not?
The farewell was warm, and after just six days, I felt like I was saying goodbye to beloved family members. I hadn’t expected that, had I?
A relaxed car journey took me to Spokane International Airport to fly to Seattle. There, I let the experience sink in for an extra day so that I didn’t have to return to the reality of work immediately.

Red Horse Mountain Ranch. Thank you for every moment. I will return.
