This year is going to start late in regards to attending concerts. I will attend the first concert in March. Nevertheless, this year’s concert journeys will be memorable.
Rick Wakeman – York
Seeing Rick Wakeman live was worth the trip to York. In the first half of the concert, he played Yes songs with his own interpretation. The second half consisted of the complete musical set of “Journey to the Centre of the Earth.”
He played a keyboard battle with his son as part of the encore.

Depeche Mode
It was a pleasure to see Depeche Mode two times in Cologne. They finished their Memento Mori tour with three concerts in Cologne. What is there more to say?
They were still keen on playing live. The positive energy caught the audience from the very beginning.

I look forward to the next album and tour.
New Model Army – Glasgow
And New Model Army again. This time, I had the absolute pleasure of seeing NMW live at The Garage in Glasgow. It is a small venue, bringing an intense concert atmosphere. I simply loved it.

And yes, the bass player wears a T-shirt from Berlin’s SO36.
Fischer-Z – Hamburg
Yet another Fischer-Z concert. The band has become one of my all-time favourites. Listening to John Watt’s music and lyrics is always a pleasure. The venue in Hamburg was well chosen. Die Fabrik is a very intimate concert location, providing a reasonably small stage. I enjoyed the evening.

Chromeo – Cologne
How can I describe Chromeo’s sound? Well, I can’t. Try it using your preferred streaming platform. I was surprised because I went to see Chromeo without knowing what kind of music they played.
The funny thing about this concert is that I was under the impression Chromeo was a recently founded band. I was surprised when they announced a sound from their first album twenty years ago. What a shame I haven’t listened to Chromeo earlier. In German we use the term “Gute-Laune-Musik”. It is music that is fun to listen to, and you can’t stand still; you have to dance.

The evening was so intense.
Jane’s Addiction – Zurich
This concert was exceptional. Travelling to Zurich allowed me to visit a good friend I rarely see. Therefore, I spent a few days more in Switzerland. The venue X-Tra is a good-sized venue for high-energy concerts. When thinking of a band founded (for the first time) in 1985.
The sound is still a mixture of hard rock, rock, funk, and world music, making Jane’s Addiction unique.

Einstürzende Neubauten – Berlin
This was the second time Einstürzende Neubauten had played a concert since I visited, and this time, they positively surprised me. They were in the mood to play, which was perfectly transferred to the audience. You can tell from every note that they are a Berlin band.

Maybe it wasn’t the last time.
The The – London
Even though you’ve been listening to their music for decades, seeing one of your favourite bands live for the first time is very special. And experiencing The The in a location like Alexandra Place in London makes it unforgettable. It was a memorable evening that I will remember for a long time without an opening act but divided into two sets.
